Not content with a normal announcement, World’s Edge confirmed that two entries from the usually PC-exclusive line of real-time strategy games are coming to the Xbox consoles and Xbox Cloud Gaming next year. The first one, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, first came out in 2019. The remaster of the original 1999 title expands on the game. In total, the re-release comes with 34 single-player campaigns and 10 multiplayer modes as well as 7 co-op campaigns on top of 83 maps and 42 multiplayer civilizations. Meanwhile, the other one is the most recent entry, Age of Empires IV, which launched last year. More importantly, the console version of Age of Empires IV will support keyboard and mouse inputs and a new tutorial designed to make the onboarding experience of gamepad purists much easier. Finally, World’s Edge confirms that the game’s AI system is now much more efficient and intuitive compared to what was previously used. As a bonus, World’s Edge announced that it will release a definitive edition of 2002’s Age of Mythology. The highly underrated installment in the award-winning series will be featuring “beautiful graphics, updated gameplay” and more, more than two decades after it first hit store shelves. Fans can also look forward to the Age of Empires Mobile game. Fingers crossed, a portable entry won’t dilute the classic Age of Empires experience or be a cash cow. We’ll find out if it’s a worthy entry as World’s Edge revealed that the game is coming soon. Age of Empires is going through a renaissance period after years of dormancy. Bringing the series to different platforms should help breathe new life into the once-struggling franchise. Hopefully, other classic real-time strategy games will follow suit.
