With that said, we’ve decided to break down the Cyberpunk 2077 map, as well as include tips on how to make the map look a little less daunting.

Just How Big Is the Cyberpunk 2077 Map?

CD Projekt RED is no stranger to creating a large open world. Their claim to fame, the Witcher franchise, has one of the largest maps in all of gaming, with its two largest regions, Skellige and Novigrad, believed to combine for a total area size of around 136 square kilometers. This isn’t including other regions like White Orchard, Kaer Morhen, and Toussaint, which are fairly sizable on their own as well. Compared to what the Witcher franchise had, the Cyberpunk 2077 map is quite small. Whereas the entirety of the Witcher map could be well over 150 square kilometers in total land area if combined, the Cyberpunk 2077 map is estimated to be just around 24 square kilometers big. However, the total land area is estimated to be only around 16 square kilometers, with the explorable area even smaller than that. Again though, while other open-world games have a ton of open spaces in their games, as well as inaccessible areas, Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t. What this essentially means is that you’ll be able to do more stuff everywhere you go in Cyberpunk 2077.

What’s the Cyberpunk 2077 Map Like?

The entirety of the Cyberpunk 2077 map is split into three areas: Night City and its six districts, the Badlands, as well as other outlying areas. Most of what you can find on the Cyberpunk 2077 map is traversable. You can go to these places whenever you want and the game actually does a great job of having you explore all of the major, as well as minor, locations in the game. Every area in Cyberpunk 2077 also feels drastically different from the other, making each one worthy of exploration. Also, while exploring, you won’t have to worry about running out of supplies because each area is stocked with its own set of services, vendors, as well as fast travel points that make going to-and-fro easier and more convenient. Most of your time in Cyberpunk 2077 will be spent exploring Night City, which is divided up into six main districts, as well as multiple sub-districts.

Watson

Watson was formerly the go-to area in Night City as it was composed mostly of offices and clubs. However, because of the economic crash, it has since become home to the Maelstrom and Tyger Claws. It’s a district known for all sorts of illegal activities, including but not limited to, gambling, prostitution, drugs, and more. Watson is separated into 3 different sub-districts:

Northside Arasaka Waterfront Little China

Westbrook

Arguably the most glamorous district in Night City, Westbrook is home to some of the cities wealthiest citizens, all living in private villas and large estates. Westbrook is separated into 3 different sub-districts:

Japantown North oak Charter Hill

City Center

At the center of Night City lies the appropriately named City Center, which stands out due to its numerous skyscrapers. It’s also the busiest part of the entire map, with heavy congestion all over. The City Center is separated into 2 different sub-districts:

Corpo Plaza Downtown

Heywood

Heywood is what you’d get if you combined the two best and worst things about Night City. It’s home to both the privileged and the deprived, with the northern part highlighted by skyscrapers with its fair mix of sceneries and parks. However, if you travel south, you’ll be treated to a sore sight as the place is populated by the 6th Street and the Valentinos, who are gangs that have laid claim to the poorer areas of Heywood. Heywood is separated into 2 different sub-districts:

Wellsprings The Glen

Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo is the most industrialized part of Night City. It’s full of manufacturing factories, which is why numerous factory workers have settled down into this district. Santo Domingo is separated into 2 different sub-districts:

Arroyo Rancho Coronado

Pacifica

Pacifica was designed to be the “home away from home” of all those who lived in Night City. However, once the wealthiest and richest of Night City found that the tourism industry was all but dead, Pacifica was left to rot. The place has since been overrun by The Voodoo Boys, among other gangs. Pacifica is separated into 2 different sub-districts:

Coastview West Wind Estate

Badlands

While not part of the six districts of Night City, the Badlands is a vast explorable area in Cyberpunk 2077. The place doesn’t have any known subdistrict, but it is largely governed by two Nomad gangs: the Wraiths and the Aldecaldos.

The History of Night City

Businessman Richard Night established Night City as “Coronado City” in the early 1990s as a haven free from crime and poverty. However, following the brutal murder of Night inside his penthouse suite at Parkview Tower in 1998, the then-newly-formed City Council decided to change the name to “Night City” in honor of their fallen founder. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the city to fall victim to corruption and violence. The government soon found itself at the mercy of mega-corporations, with crime syndicates taking control of anything and everything happening inside the proverbial walls of Night City. By the late 2000s, Night City became a battleground for the warring mafia gangs. The war would last for a good two years from 2009 and 2011 until Arasaka military forces stepped in to effectively end the era of the Mob. From then on, the city would see one large-scale conflict and economic turmoil after another. This reached a boiling point in the early 2020s when the mega-corporation, Militech International Armaments, decided to drop a “pocket nuke” on the city’s Twin Arasaka Towers. This left a lot of death and destruction in its wake. It also resulted in a dust cloud forming, that took years for the Night City to recover from. The events of Cyberpunk 2077 take place in 2077, with Night City having now mostly recovered from its tumultuous past. Although Night City is now a far cry from the utopian dreams of its founder, it has become recognized as an independent city-state that operates outside of the New United States (NUSA).

Traveling Around the Cyberpunk 2077 Map

There are multiple ways to travel around the Cyberpunk 2077 map. You can use vehicles, you can go on foot, and you can also use Fast Travel points. The Fast Travel points in Cyberpunk 2077 are represented by small kiosks with holographic maps and are automatically explored as you explore. They use blue markers as symbols on your map.
