Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will pick up on the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition as it will bring back a former companion and love interest, Solas, as the titular Dread Wolf. Unfortunately, Solas’ return isn’t worth celebrating as he will serve as the antagonist of the next game. This confirms an earlier tease back in 2018 when Solas, still voiced by Gareth David-Lloyd, said, “So, you have found me at least. I suspect you have questions.” And questions, indeed we have. Unfortunately, it appears that we’ll all have to wait until “later this year” to find out more about Dragon Age 4. What we know is that the fourth installment will also cater to older as well as newer fans. It also appears that twists are a huge part of the game. As per the 2020 Game Awards trailer, Dragon Age 4’s protagonist will be one that enemies “will never see coming.” The narrator, Brian Bloom, who has also voiced multiple characters in the series, also added that the hero will not be a prophetic figure or someone with a “magic hand”.

— BioWare (@bioware) June 2, 2022 It’s looking more and more likely that Grubb’s estimation of a late 2023 release for Dragon Age 4 is proving accurate. This would make it almost a decade (if not a decade) since the last game came out in 2014. Although EA reassured fans that Dreadwolf does not require any existing knowledge of the award-winning franchise to enjoy, it might be a good idea to pick up and play (or replay) Inquisition in the next few months. Having said that, it’s nice that we’re finally hearing more info about Dragon Age 4. The title update suggests that development has progressed well since the last update. But, without E3 2022 and EA Play, we won’t know exactly when EA will start talking about Dragon Age: Dreadwolf again. Ultimately, it’s best to expect the next Dragon Age 4 update at The Game Awards 2022 in December.
