Of all the games that could be in development, a tactical take on the Marvel franchise is arguably the least expected. Yet, that is exactly what Firaxis announced at Gamescom 2021. The game, which is based on the Midnight Sons comic team, is the first licensed project between Firaxis Games and Marvel. Scroll down below if you’d like to know more about Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

Who are the Midnight Sons?

The Midnight Sons debuted back in the early ’90s. The team is composed of superpowered heroes, albeit with an affinity for the occult. You can think of them as Justice League Dark only for Marvel. Over the years, the lineup has changed, but the core members have almost always been Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, Morbius the Living Vampire, and Blade. For Midnight Suns, Firaxis keeps several of the classic members of the Midnight Sons while adding mainstream characters like Captain Marvel, Wolverine, Captain America, and Iron Man, among others.

Is there a Midnight Suns trailer?

Yes, there is. Firaxis dropped the reveal trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which has been rumored to be in development for months now, at Gamescom 2021.

Who are the characters in Midnight Suns?

Captain Marvel Captain America Iron Man Dr. Strange Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) Blade (Eric Brooks) Wolverine Magik Nico Minoru Morbius

In addition to established Marvel characters, Firaxis is also going to introduce a unique character to Midnight Suns in The Hunter. The developers claim that The Hunter is a fully customizable character that they created specifically to help players immerse themselves in the world of Midnight Suns. What is perhaps the most interesting part about The Hunter is that they are the child of Lilith, the main antagonist in the game. This should make for quite an interesting narrative. Firaxis appears to want to make sure that the hero isn’t just a generic one-off character. To that end, the developers are working with Marvel to make sure that the hero plays an integral role in the plot of the game.

What kind of gameplay will Midnight Suns have?

If there’s one thing that Firaxis Games does and does well, it’s making turn-based strategy games. We shouldn’t expect Midnight Suns to deviate from Firaxis’ usual formula. However, it is reasonable to expect some changes, especially in regards to how superpowered beings will work together and fight others who are just as equally capable as they are in terms of wanton destruction. The reveal trailer didn’t show much in terms of gameplay, but 2K and Firaxis should have more footage to showcase in the future.

When is the Midnight Suns release date?

Audiences can expect Marvel’s Midnight Suns to launch sometime in March 2022.
