During a recent interview with Empire magazine, the filmmaker talked about his final Marvel project. He stated that he will work with the Guardians of the Galaxy cast again and quipped that it might even be at his new job as DC Studios’ co-CEO. In his words, “This cast are like my family. I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job.” Gunn and the Guardians of the Galaxy cast members have worked together for a decade across multiple projects, so his sentiments are understandable. However, things might be easier said than done since Marvel and DC are rival companies. While there’s no evidence that either company forbids working with its rival, there’s a possibility it’s highly discouraged given the high visibility that comes with playing a superhero character. For instance, one of the reasons Robert Pattinson was considered for his role as Batman in the Matt Reeves reboot of the franchise was the fact he had never worked with the Marvel universe and, thus, couldn’t be associated with any of their characters. Before Gunn was appointed as the co-CEO of DC Studios, he directed The Suicide Squad, as well as the spin-off TV show, Peacemaker, for the company. However, his new job as co-CEO will involve a lot of decision making and he has hit the ground running. He sacked Henry Cavill, who erstwhile played Superman, intending to reboot the series and go in a different direction. He, alongside his co-CEO, also canceled the planned third installment of Wonder Woman due to their dissatisfaction with the film’s script. At the moment, Gunn is working on a long-term plan for the DC Universe that will emulate Marvel’s approach in terms of telling a cohesive story. Chris Pratt will reprise his role as Star-Lord/Peter Quill alongside Zoe Saldana who plays Gamora. Other cast members are Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper, who return as Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Groot, and Rocket respectively. In other news, Dave Bautista has confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be his final film as Drax the Destroyer. The Glass Onion actor revealed this during a recent interview with GQ, where he opened up after portraying the character for the past ten years. Gunn’s MCU swansong will premiere in theaters on May 5.
