Quan’s role in the sci-fi comedy earned praise from audiences and critics. The actor also received his first Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Male Actor for his performance in the movie. Even Marvel’s Kevin Feige was impressed by Quan’s performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once. The actor recently revealed that Feige personally called him to join the MCU after watching the film. “When our movie came out, the first phone call I got was from Kevin Feige, who graciously asked me if I wanted to join the MCU and I called Jonathan and the gang, and I said, you know what, nobody wants to hire me except Stephen Spielberg, George Lucas, The Daniels, and Kevin Feige,” Quan revealed during an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “It’s been incredible. 2022 is the year I will always remember because it’s one of the happiest years of my life.” Quan previously worked with George Lucas when he was only twelve years old in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which came out in 1984. The actor played a young taxi driver and Jones’ sidekick named Short Round in the film. Quan also appeared in the Steven Spielberg adventure comedy The Goonies. The actor worked with the likes of Sean Astin and Josh Brolin in the 1985 classic. Despite being part of such high-profile titles, Quan received only a few job offers forcing him to retire from acting. “I remember I did [Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom] in 1984 and The Goonies in 1985,” he told Horowitz. “I did a television show for CBS in ‘86. And, after that, the roles just got smaller and the opportunities got fewer—and I was waiting a year and a half between jobs. And if you look at my resume, some of those jobs were just like a minor character, so, you know, I would wait a year and a half, work a week, and I would wait for another year before I would get another opportunity to audition.” After retiring from acting, Quan got a film degree from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and worked as a stunt coordinator and assistant director. The actor was inspired to return to acting after watching Crazy Rich Asians. Quan shares in the podcast that he had a hard time landing a role after deciding to make a comeback. The actor, fortunately, landed the role in Everything Everywhere All at Once and everything fell into place. With the success of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Quan will next take his act to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ke Huy Quan will be part of Loki Season 2 as a Time Variance Authority archivist. The actor appeared alongside Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, and Kevin Feige for the presentation of Loki Season 2 in D23. During the event, Quan got to reunite with legendary actor Harrison Ford after 38 years. Ford has been cast into the role of General Theodore “Thunderbolt” Ross in the MCU and is set to appear in Captain America: New World order and Thunderbolts. Loki Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2023 on Disney+.
