Over a year after Marvel Studios’ award-winning Disney+ series premiered on the streaming platform, the latest TV spot for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness just confirmed the return of two of WandaVision’s most important characters. In the brief Doctor Strange sequel trailer, audiences can see Wanda Maximoff attempting to give the twins, Billy and Tommy, a hug. It appears that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch still hasn’t come to terms that her children never existed in the first place as the two vanished along with the rest of Westview’s fake reality. At the same time, you could argue Wanda has grown powerful enough to give birth to her imagination, suggesting that Billy and Tommy exist somewhere in the multiverse. In addition to Billy and Tommy, the latest Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness TV spot gives audiences a better look at key scenes shown off in earlier trailers. For example, there’s a shot of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange lying on the floor with what looks like cuffs on his hands, with the current Sorcerer Supreme, Wong, fighting alongside Wanda Maximoff as well. There’s also a scene at the tail end of the trailer where Doctor Strange is confronting a sinister-looking version of himself with a third eye opening on his forehead.

After exploring the aftermath of Thanos’ Snap and Iron Man’s Blip following the events of Avengers: Endgame, subsequent MCU shows and movies dealt with multiple universes and different variants of the same person. Doctor Strange 2, in particular, will see the titular sorcerer seek Wanda’s help to try and understand exactly what he did in Spider-Man: No Way Home. From the looks of it, Doctor Strange will face off against multiple versions of himself in his second solo MCU outing while also meeting new characters like Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, who, in the comic books, can literally kick the door to the multiverse wide open. Of course, the biggest elephant in the room is how the second Doctor Strange-led film will open the flood gates to the multiverse with several cameos from non-MCU franchises like the seemingly confirmed appearance of the Illuminati led by Patrick Stewart’s Professor X from Fox’s now-defunct X-men franchise, as well as What If…’s Captain Carter and Zombie Strange, among several others. With an exceedingly long run-time, Doctor Strange isn’t going to be left wanting more time to introduce as many characters as it would like when it premieres on May 5.
