Urquhart expressed his interest in an interview with Dualshockers for Fallout’s 25th anniversary. In his words, “If we [Obsidian] ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we’d make it. There’s not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it’s just ‘Will the opportunity arise?’” Obsidian is responsible for The Outer Worlds, the Pillars of Eternity series, and The Stick of Truth. The developer just released the survival game, Grounded, and is working on the medieval murder mystery, Pentiment, which is scheduled for a November 15 release. Obsidian is also reportedly working on a sequel to The Outer Worlds, as well as the first-person game Avowed. Urquhart believes that Fallout could be next on the list after these games. He mentioned this to Dualshockers, saying, “At some point, we’ll start looking into what those next games are going to be, and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list. If we were to do Fallout, it has to tie in with what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and a lot of other things, but I would always personally say my hope is that before I ride off into the sunset, I’d love to make another Fallout game.” Before working on Fallout at Obsidian, Urquhart had previously worked on it while he was with Interplay. In fact, Urquhart was the director of Black Isle Studios, Interplay’s RPG division, when the series was created. He was also one of the four designers who developed the SPECIAL system for the game. What’s more? He served as producer and lead designer on the franchise’s second title, Fallout 2. Bethesda Softworks, which currently owns the right to Fallout, is currently working on Starfield and Elder Scrolls VI. At the moment, The Elder Scrolls VI is in pre-production until Starfield is released in 2023. While the company’s director, Todd Howard, has confirmed that the next installment in the Fallout series, Fallout 5, will debut after the release of The Elder Scrolls VI, fans of the franchise have wondered whether another studio could work on the next installment because of Bethesda’s busy schedule. Urquhart’s comments are a response to the fans’ wishes. Fortunately, both Bethesda and Urquhart’s Obsidian are under Microsoft. So, it should be easy to push the project to Obsidian’s table should Microsoft decide fans should get a new Fallout title sooner than later. Fallout is a series of post-apocalyptic role-playing video games set during the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd centuries. While the game was created by Interplay Studios, Bethesda Softworks has since acquired the rights. The game series utilizes an atompunk retro-futuristic setting and its art was inspired by the United States 1950 culture following the Second World War. The first title in the series simply titled Fallout was released in 1997 to acclaim from fans and audiences alike. Until there is a new Fallout game, fans can entertain themselves with the mods available for the game, including Fallout London, which is scheduled for release sometime in 2023.
