As if to save face (and to confirm the obvious), Rockstar has confirmed that it’s working on a new Grand Theft Auto game.

In the studio’s latest Grand Theft Auto community update, Rockstar acknowledged how fans have been asking them for a “new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.” The statement added that the studio is “pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.” Just keep in mind that Rockstar hasn’t confirmed that it’s going to be called Grand Theft Auto VI. Of course, given how Rockstar hasn’t released a spin-off in a while, it’s best to call the next game GTA 6 unless otherwise confirmed. Either way, it doesn’t matter what Rockstar’s next GTA game is called; it will still end up being one of the most hyped games of all time. What’s more interesting is how GTA VI will compare to its predecessors after the studio’s co-founder, Dan Houser, left Rockstar back in 2020. Ultimately, fans shouldn’t expect GTA VI to be released anytime soon. Rockstar still hasn’t fixed GTA: The Trilogy with GTA V’s next-gen version set to release in March. But, if it’s any consolation, several reports suggest that Rockstar isn’t leaving fans hanging until GTA VI is out. Case in point, a report back in November suggested that a GTA IV remaster would be released in 2023 with a Red Dead Redemption remake coming soon after. These two would certainly tide fans over next year in anticipation of an announcement in 2024 and a potential release in 2025, as leaked by an industry insider last June. In other news, fans are hoping that Rockstar will listen and add Russian Vin Diesel into GTA VI after the user’s TikTok video went viral.
