According to Rockstar Games, GTA 5: Enhanced Edition, which is the updated version of the 2013 title with improvements for current-gen consoles, will not release on November 11, 2021, as initially announced. Rockstar will also delay GTA Online as well.
Why is Rockstar delaying GTA Online and GTA V: Enhanced Edition?
Rockstar did not specify the reason for the delay, which is probably why fans are so frustrated and angry at the moment. It just doesn’t make any sense for Rockstar to delay a game that’s already nearing its 10th anniversary, especially since GTA V: Enhanced Edition is technically just a remaster. If it’s any consolation, Rockstar did drop a new trailer. Then again, it felt more like rubbing salt into the wound. Although it was nice to see the improved graphics in the trailer, it would have been better to get a chance to play the game sooner. In addition to more footage of Grand Theft Auto 5 on the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, the trailer also shows off more of the standalone version of GTA Online. The game’s popular multiplayer mode is one of the biggest success stories in gaming history. It weathered a disastrous launch period and is now set to become a separate game. Speaking of GTA Online, Rockstar confirmed that PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive more content as part of the studio’s marketing deal with Sony. What is perhaps the worst part about the delay to GTA V: Enhanced Edition is that it doesn’t bode well for the release of GTA 6. Earlier rumors suggested that the next GTA installment won’t release until 2025. Because Rockstar is pushing back GTA Online and GTA V: Enhanced Edition to 2022, this might mean that GTA VI won’t be here until probably the next generation of consoles arrive. We are hoping that this isn’t the case. If it is, then it paves the way for Deep Silver Volition to capitalize with the upcoming Saints Row reboot. At the moment, March 2022 is shaping up to be a big month for Take-Two. In addition to the launch of GTA V: Enhanced Edition and GTA Online, WWE 2K22, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, are all expected to drop in the same month. Rockstar still hasn’t addressed the rumors about a GTA Remastered trilogy that’s been linked to Take-Two’s recent lawsuit.
