No one expects Cyberpunk 2077 to reach those levels again, but we can’t exactly rule out the possibility now that Cyberpunk 2077 is closer to launch levels of popularity than ever before, after hitting six digits in concurrent players over the past 24 hours.

According to SteamDB, Cyberpunk 2077 has seen over 100,000 players in the past 24 hours with a 24-hour peak of 122,376. This represents a significant increase from the game’s player count in previous months. Cyberpunk 2077 is benefitting from the perfect storm. After CD Projekt RED debuted the 1.6 patch, Steam slashed half off the price of the game. A few weeks later, Netflix came out with the game’s anime prequel, Edgerunners. This is similar to what happened with The Witcher 3 two years ago after the Netflix live-action adaptation made its debut on the streaming giant as well. The main difference is that Edgerunners is influencing more players to try out Cyberpunk 2077. We’re curious to find out if the official numbers for the console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 tell a similar tale. With lifetime sales of close to 20 million copies, Cyberpunk 2077 is a certified hit even if its negative reception at launch coincided with a huge slide in the CD Projekt RED stock price. It’s unlikely the recent surge will influence CDPR to release more expansions for Cyberpunk 2077 after Phantom Liberty. The company has already confirmed that it will be the first and only expansion for the game. However, we’re hoping that CDPR is open to releasing a prequel or sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 in the future, after it’s done working on The Witcher 4. Speaking of Edgerunners, fans are now hoping that CDPR and Netflix will renew the anime series for a second season with the same animation studio.
